TaskSmart:

Your UItimate Productivity Sidekick!

Problem Statement

College students often struggle to balance school and work, which can result in poor time management, stress, and incomplete tasks.

The app aims to solve this by providing personalized schedules, reminders, and productivity tools to help users manage their time more effectively

TaskSmart

Solution

TaskSmart is a powerful time management mobile app that helps users efficiently prioritize and manage their tasks. It features a visually intuitive prioritization system inspired by the Eisenhower Matrix.

Research

User Interview

To explore whether busy professionals face similar challenges with task prioritization and management, a focused set of four key questions was developed to gather valuable insights. Fifteen-minute interviews were then conducted with three professionals to collect their feedback.

Findings

  • Many users struggle with task prioritization.

  • Users prefer a clean and simple interface.

  • Users desire for flexible viewing options.

User Persona

Based on the research findings, a user persona was developed to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying issues and challenges uncovered during the research process.

Competitive Analysis

To assess the strengths and weaknesses of various time management apps, I analyzed three competitors:  Todoist, Trello, and Microsoft To Do.

Define

Findings & Hypothetical Solution

Through user interviews, competitor analysis, and the creation of a detailed user persona, key pain points and needs in time management were identified.

  • Users expressed a desire for a tool that helps them prioritize tasks more effectively.

  • Competitor analysis revealed a gap in visual prioritization.

  • There was a strong need for a clean and intuitive interface to reduce overwhelm and improve usability.

To address these challenges, the Eisenhower Matrix was incorporated, enabling users to sort tasks by urgency and importance. This feature allows users to focus on high-priority tasks while minimizing time spent on less critical ones. The app visually represents this system in a clear, easy-to-understand format, empowering users to make informed decisions about task prioritization.

Additionally, flexible viewing options (monthly, weekly, and daily views) were included to accommodate various planning styles and ensure comprehensive time management.

These insights guided the development of TaskSmart, a user-centric solution for effective time management.

Develope

Wireflows

Based on the workflow, I created low-fidelity prototypes using Figma.

Wireflow Usability Test

I conducted testing with three participants.

During the test, users were asked to:

  1. Search and join a social dining event.

  2. Create a dining invite.

  3. Explore the app.

Iterations

From the usability test, I learned that the week view and day view were missing a timeline feature, which made it difficult for users to visualize and plan their schedules in detail, especially for tasks requiring specific timing or coordination.

Based on these findings, I added the timeline feature to both the week and day views.

Key Takeaways from the Project:

  1. Understanding User Needs: Gained valuable insights into the importance of deeply understanding user needs through research, such as user interviews and competitor analysis.

  2. Designing for Simplicity: Recognized that users prefer clean interfaces and intuitive designs, emphasizing the need for simplicity in user experience.

  3. Incorporating Unique Features: Saw the value of including unique features, like the Eisenhower Matrix, to differentiate the app and enhance user appeal.

Areas for Improvement:

  1. Iterative Feedback: Continuously seek and incorporate user feedback throughout the development process to refine features and enhance the user experience.

  2. Onboarding and Tutorials: Strengthen onboarding processes and provide comprehensive tutorials to help users quickly adapt and utilize all features effectively.
